At Veteran Social, our mission is to unite, amplify, and elevate the military-connected community through connection, empowerment, education, collaboration, and social impact.
We believe that many of the challenges and opportunities facing veterans, transitioning service members, military spouses, and military families are shaped by public policy. From healthcare and employment to entrepreneurship, education, housing, and retirement benefits, legislation can have a profound impact on the lives of those who have served.
That is why Veteran Social is committed to raising awareness of legislation, policies, and initiatives that affect the military-connected community.
Our Commitment: Nonpartisan, Mission-Focused, Veteran-Centered
Veteran Social is not affiliated with any political party, candidate, or political campaign.
Our focus is simple:
Educate the community on legislation impacting veterans and military spouses.
Amplify veteran voices and lived experiences.
Highlight opportunities for civic engagement and advocacy.
Encourage informed discussion and respectful dialogue.
Support policies that improve outcomes for the military-connected community.
We believe that supporting veterans should transcend politics.
Current Focus: The Major Richard Star Act
Veteran Social proudly supports awareness and education surrounding the Major Richard Star Act, legislation designed to address a long-standing inequity affecting combat-injured veterans.
The bill would allow eligible combat-injured veterans who were medically retired before reaching 20 years of service to receive both their military retirement pay and VA disability compensation concurrently without reduction.
Currently, many of these veterans experience a dollar-for-dollar offset between these benefits, a practice often referred to as the "wounded veteran tax."
Named in honor of Army Major Richard Star, who was forced to medically retire due to service-connected cancer before reaching 20 years of service, the legislation seeks to restore benefits that many believe these veterans have earned through their sacrifice and service.
Why It Matters
The Major Richard Star Act would:
✔ End the "wounded veteran tax"
✔ Restore full earned benefits to eligible combat-injured veterans
✔ Correct a long-standing gap in federal law
✔ Honor the service and sacrifice of wounded warriors
Looking Ahead
The Major Richard Star Act is only one example of legislation impacting the military-connected community.
As Veteran Social continues to grow, we will provide educational resources and awareness campaigns related to issues including:
Veteran employment and workforce development
Military spouse career opportunities
Veteran entrepreneurship and small business growth
Healthcare and mental health access

Caregiver and family support initiatives
Military retirement and benefits reform
Our goal is not to tell people what to think.
